Piratefish is the action adventure story of two submarines moored at Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay in 1949 one of which is targeted for hijacking by a Red Chinese Gang.

Disguised as a bank interne Red Chinese Colonel Mark Hong comes to Blair Mansion to be trained by Cynthia Blair at China Bank. While Cynthia plans a wedding Hong plans to steal a submarine from its moorage at Treasure Island.

Hong’s gang extorts money from Chinese-Americans to fund the enterprise. His trawler, Red Moon tows a kelp mat concealing his submarine Red Sun to a point of operations west of the Golden Gate. At the height of the wedding festivities, the gang seizes several hostages, as well as the submarine Minefish.

Chief Gunnersmate Carruther and Lt. Sylvester of the Minefish’s sister ship Piratefish track the gang and its leader in San Francisco. Sylvester and Carruther deliver the coup de grace. When officers of the two submarines are subsequently put on trial by the Navy, the incident comes to a surprising conclusion.

From Piratefish the reader will experience a page turning good read about situations of danger the opportunity to gain insight into the U. S. Navy’s view of such an incident.

The author, Claude M. Pearson, Captain USNR (Rtd.) explains that Piratefish is a sequel to his first novel Gunfish and involves officers and crew members five years later serving on a new generation of submarines.

Pearson as a Naval Reserve Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1944 and 1945 made four war patrols on the U.S.S. Pogy (SS 266) where he served as Torpedo and Gunnery Officer and was twice awarded the Submarine Combat Insignia. On the tenth and final war patrol, Pearson helped his skipper win the Navy Cross and in a Letter of Commendation he was cited for “….proficiency in operating the Torpedo Data Computer which was of valuable assistance to his commanding officer in conducting successful attacks.” After the war he attended the University of Michigan Law School. He retired from practice in 1991 and he writes and lives in Tacoma, Washington.
